AE4 Experiences
Education is most powerful when students experience it firsthand. Through AE4 Experiences, students step beyond the classroom to work alongside researchers, physicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, and university faculty who are solving real-world problems.
From biomedical research laboratories and healthcare simulation centers to operating rooms and engineering facilities, students gain authentic experiences that deepen their understanding of STEM+C while helping them discover future career pathways. These experiences aren't simply tours—they are immersive opportunities where students participate, investigate, collaborate, and learn from experts at the forefront of innovation.
AE4 Innovation Scholar Program
The AE4 Innovation Scholar Program provides highly motivated students with the opportunity to pursue multi-year research and innovation experiences centered on real-world problems they are passionate about solving. Working alongside university faculty, physicians, researchers, engineers, and industry professionals, Innovation Scholars design personalized learning pathways that extend far beyond the traditional classroom.
Scholars conduct authentic research, develop innovative technologies, compete in regional and national events, present at university research symposiums, and may earn internships, dual enrollment opportunities, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. More than a program, the Innovation Scholar experience prepares students to become the next generation of innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and leaders committed to making a meaningful impact on the world.
Loma Linda University Biomechatronics Research Experience
Students spend a week at Loma Linda University exploring the emerging field of biomechatronics, where engineering, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and medicine converge. Working alongside university faculty, researchers, and graduate students, participants investigate how technology can restore human movement and improve quality of life through prosthetics, robotics, brain-computer interfaces, and medical device innovation.
The experience introduces students to authentic biomedical research while inspiring future careers in engineering, medicine, and neuroscience.
AdventHealth University Health Careers & Research Experience
The AdventHealth University Health Careers & Research Experience immerses students in the rapidly evolving world of healthcare and biomedical research. Students explore a variety of health professions while participating in hands-on activities led by university faculty, physicians, and healthcare professionals.
Through laboratory investigations, clinical simulations, and research experiences, students gain a deeper understanding of how science, technology, and compassionate care work together to improve lives.
Robotic Cardiac Surgery Experience
One of AE4's most distinctive experiences is the Robotic Cardiac Surgery Experience, led by Peter Carnegie, CEO of Minimally Invasive Solutions. During this immersive experience, students step into the role of surgical trainees, donning operating room scrubs and learning alongside practicing cardiac surgeons.
Using the da Vinci® Surgical System, students experience the same physician training techniques used to prepare surgeons for minimally invasive mitral valve repair. They practice robotic surgical techniques on a cadaveric heart, gaining firsthand insight into robotic surgery, advanced medical technology, and the precision required in modern cardiac procedures.
Few high school students have the opportunity to participate in such an authentic surgical training environment, making this one of the signature experiences of the AE4 program.

InnovationX
InnovationX is the AE4 annual innovation showcase where students present authentic solutions to real-world problems before a panel of educators, researchers, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. Through research presentations, engineering prototypes, and startup pitches, students demonstrate the knowledge, creativity, and professional skills they have developed through the AE4 Framework.
More than a competition, InnovationX celebrates innovation, collaboration, and the next generation of Christ-centered leaders who are using their talents to make a meaningful impact on the world.
AdventHealth University Student Research Symposium
AE4 students showcase their research at the AdventHealth University Student Research Symposium, presenting professional research posters alongside university students, graduate researchers, and faculty. This unique opportunity allows students to communicate their findings to healthcare professionals, researchers, and academic leaders while experiencing the rigor and excitement of a university research conference.
By participating in a professional academic symposium, students develop essential research and presentation skills, receive expert feedback, and gain firsthand experience in the process of scientific discovery—an opportunity rarely available to middle and high school students.
